The OSG 8331019 is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting M16x2 metric internal threads in a single helical interpolation pass. Built from solid carbide and finished with an EgiAs coating, this tool delivers the hardness and thermal resistance needed for production threading in steel, stainless, cast iron, and nonferrous materials. The 12.00 mm shank diameter pairs with a 11.70 mm cutting diameter, and the 36.00 mm length of cut accommodates full-depth threading in most standard workpiece applications. It carries 5 flutes in a right-hand configuration, which distributes cutting forces evenly and supports consistent thread form across the tool life. Machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments are the primary users.
This thread mill fits CNC machining centers running metric thread programs. The helical interpolation method allows a single tool to produce the complete M16x2 thread profile, eliminating the need for a dedicated tap and reducing tooling changeover time. The 120.00 mm overall length provides clearance for most standard machining center spindles and workholding setups. The EgiAs coating reduces friction and built-up edge, making this tool well suited for dry or minimal-lubrication cutting strategies where thermal load management is a priority. Series 16620 from OSG covers metric thread milling applications across a range of thread sizes.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation with a 12.00 mm straight shank toolholder. Suited for M16x2 metric thread milling applications per ISO metric thread standards.
Install into a compatible 12.00 mm precision collet or end mill holder and verify runout before cutting. Thread milling requires a CNC control with helical interpolation capability and a correctly programmed thread milling cycle for M16x2 pitch. Confirm workpiece is rigidly fixtured before engaging the cutter. Do not use in manual or non-interpolating machine tools.
