The OSG 8331010 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting M12x1.5 metric fine internal threads in a CNC machining environment. With a 10 mm shank diameter and a 9.70 mm cutting diameter, this tool mills threads in a single helical pass, reducing cycle time compared to tap-based threading. It carries five right-hand flutes and an EgiAs coating for improved wear resistance and tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in precision manufacturing, job shops, and aerospace or automotive production environments are the primary users of this tool.
This thread mill is suited for machining centers capable of helical interpolation. It performs M12x1.5 metric fine threads in through-holes and blind holes where tap breakage risk is a concern or where a single tool must handle multiple thread sizes through programmed adjustments. The 27 mm length of cut accommodates typical thread depth requirements for M12 fastener applications. The 100 mm overall length provides clearance in standard tool holders and CAT or BT spindle setups.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with helical interpolation capability and a 10 mm tool holder or collet chuck accepting a 10 mm shank. Intended for M12x1.5 metric fine thread applications per the Series 16620 OSG product line.
Installation and programming must be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling engineer. Secure the 10 mm shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder torqued to the machine spindle specification before cutting. Helical interpolation toolpaths must be programmed to the correct thread pitch and cutting diameter offset — verify G-code parameters against the M12x1.5 thread specification before running. External coolant or cutting oil is recommended since this tool does not feature through-coolant capability.
