Licensed trades machinists and tooling technicians are the primary installers and users of this product.
This insert is suited for indexable milling applications in both light and moderate material removal scenarios involving stainless steel (ISO material code M) and steel (ISO material code P). It fits the OSG 78PHC cutter series and is compatible with screw-on insert holding systems. The GM chip breaker geometry supports positive rake cutting action, helping to control chip formation and reduce cutting forces when machining these materials. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose contouring on CNC machining centers in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with the OSG 78PHC cutter series. The ANSI and ISO code for this insert is SXMT120410SR-GM. Screw-on insert holding method required. Compatible with right-hand cutter bodies accepting SXMT style inserts in the 120410 size code.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw to avoid micro-movement during cutting. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before indexing or replacing the insert. Follow the cutter manufacturer's recommended feed and speed guidelines for the specific workpiece material being machined.
