The OSG 661031217 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. It carries a 5/16-inch (0.3126-inch decimal) diameter with a 140-degree R-thinned point that reduces thrust and improves self-centering on entry. The EgiAs coating provides heat and wear resistance for extended tool life in demanding applications. At 118.00 mm (approximately 4.65 inches) overall length with a 64.00 mm flute length, it fits standard jobber-length drill chucks. Three spiral flutes with a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio promote efficient chip evacuation. Right-hand cut with a tapered web configuration. Installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel. It supports coolant-through delivery, making it well matched to CNC machining centers and tool turrets where through-spindle coolant is available. Typical applications include standard drilling, self-centering entry, and cross-hole operations. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks, collet holders, or hydraulic tool holders without adapters.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel workpieces (ISO material codes P, M, K, H). Fits standard straight-shank drill chucks, collet holders, and hydraulic tool holders accepting a 5/16-inch shank. Part of OSG Series 6610.
Secure the shank fully in a calibrated chuck or collet holder and verify runout before beginning a drilling cycle. Ensure coolant-through supply is active when using through-coolant capability, as running dry at high feeds accelerates edge wear. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are set per OSG Series 6610 cutting data for the specific workpiece material before engaging the cut. Inspect the cutting edges and point geometry for chipping or wear at regular intervals, particularly when drilling hardened steel.
