The OSG 6462100 is a 4-flute square end mill ground from powdered metal high speed steel (PM-HSS) in OSG Series 646, designed for long-reach milling operations in machine shops and production environments. With a 0.625 inch cutting diameter, 2.5 inch length of cut, and 4.625 inch overall length, this tool handles side milling, slotting, and profiling passes where standard-length end mills fall short. The 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The bright, uncoated finish is suited for general-purpose ferrous and non-ferrous machining. Machinists and CNC operators install and run this tool on vertical machining centers, mills, and manual knee mills.
The 6462100 is a long-series end mill intended for applications requiring extended reach into deep pockets, cavities, or stepped features where a standard-length tool cannot access the full depth. It is centercutting, which allows plunge entry as well as conventional ramping. With a 0.625 inch shank diameter matching the cutting diameter, it seats directly in standard ER collet chucks, milling chucks, or shrink-fit holders sized for 5/8 inch shanks. The PM-HSS VC10 material grade provides improved wear resistance and toughness compared to conventional HSS, making it a practical choice for general steel, alloy steel, and cast iron work at moderate cutting speeds.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 5/8 inch shank in standard ER collet, milling chuck, or shrink-fit toolholding systems. Part of the OSG Series 646 long-series end mill line.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before inserting or removing the end mill from any toolholder. Verify the shank is clean and free of chips or burrs before seating in the collet or chuck, and torque the holder to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout with a test indicator before beginning a production cut, particularly for long-series tools where deflection at the tip is more pronounced than with standard-length end mills.
