The OSG 62903 is a 90-degree spotting drill designed to create accurate starter holes for follow-on drilling operations. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tool establishes a precise center point that guides subsequent drill bits and reduces walking on flat or curved surfaces. The 3mm cutting diameter and 2-flute spiral geometry support clean, consistent entry cuts in general-purpose machining applications. With a straight-cylindrical shank and right-hand cut direction, the 62903 mounts directly into standard drill chucks and collet holders. It is part of the OSG Series 1200 lineup and is suited for use on manual mills, CNC machining centers, and drill presses.
This spotting drill is intended for general-purpose shop use across light manufacturing, toolroom, and maintenance machining environments. The 90-degree point angle is the most common angle used to spot holes before standard jobber or twist drills, and it is appropriate for a wide range of workpiece materials including mild steel, aluminum, and engineering plastics. The 11mm flute length accommodates typical spotting depths without excessive tool extension. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically select this size for small-bore work requiring tight positional accuracy.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks and straight-shank collet holders on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills that accept a 3mm straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this tool should be performed by qualified machinists following standard shop safety procedures. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck and verify runout before cutting. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing or adjusting tooling. Do not exceed the recommended spindle speeds for the workpiece material and tool diameter.
