The OSG 62605 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and aluminum alloys. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 120-degree drill point with S-thinned web improves self-centering and reduces thrust force on entry. At 10.5 mm diameter (0.4134 inches) with a 144 mm overall length and 87 mm flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC spindles. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 12 mm in diameter. Machinists, tool-and-die techs, and maintenance professionals across HVAC fab, plumbing rough-in, and general metal fabrication rely on this geometry for clean, accurate holes.
This drill bit is suited for blind hole drilling, cross-hole operations, and standard through-drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The regular spiral flute with tapered web configuration promotes chip evacuation in steel and stainless steel. Its S-thinned point reduces walking on entry, making it practical for applications where a center punch or spot drill is not used. It is not designed for coolant-through use; external flood or mist cooling is the appropriate method when cutting speeds or material hardness demand it.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks, CNC machining centers, and drill press spindles accepting a 12 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Appropriate for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), and N (aluminum and non-ferrous alloys) per ISO material classification.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should verify chuck or collet capacity before installing this bit. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or tool holder and confirm runout is within acceptable tolerance before beginning a cut. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or external mist coolant when drilling stainless steel or hard alloys to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if edge integrity is compromised.
