The OSG 62596 is a jobber-length twist drill bit ground from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. It cuts a 9.6 mm (0.3780 inch) diameter hole and runs 137 mm overall, with an 87 mm flute length. The 120-degree split point is S-thinned to reduce walking and lower thrust on entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 10 mm in diameter for solid chuck retention. With a tapered web and regular spiral geometry, this bit is built for high-performance drilling in production and maintenance environments. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and industrial maintenance professionals are the primary users.
The OSG 62596 is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate materials. The TiN coating extends tool life and reduces built-up edge when cutting ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. Its self-centering point makes it a strong choice for applications where layout and hole location accuracy matter. This bit works across vertical mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers that accept a straight-shank tool in the 9 mm to 10 mm size range.
Designed for use in drill presses, vertical milling machines, and CNC machining centers that accept a straight-cylindrical shank in the 9 mm to 10 mm diameter range. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate per OSG Series 1600 specifications.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operating and verify runout before cutting. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply external cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or deep holes to manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as a worn TiN coating or damaged S-thinned point will degrade hole quality and increase thrust. Follow the machine manufacturer and OSHA general industry standards for guarding, workpiece clamping, and personal protective equipment when drilling.
