The OSG 62590 is a jobber-length twist drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. Built from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction at the cutting edge. It features a 9 mm diameter, a 120-degree S-thinned point for accurate self-centering and reduced thrust, and a right-hand spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation. Overall length is 131 mm (approximately 5.16 inches) with an 81 mm (approximately 3.19 inches) flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 10 mm in diameter. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working with drill presses or CNC equipment.
The OSG 62590 Series 1600 drill bit is designed for drilling into steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, through drilling, and self-centering operations in both production and maintenance environments. The regular spiral geometry and tapered web configuration support consistent chip flow across a range of feed and speed conditions. This bit is suited for job shop work as well as repetitive production runs where dimensional accuracy is critical.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and CNC tool holders accepting a 10 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate per OSG Series 1600 specifications.
This bit is installed by a machinist or qualified technician into a keyed or keyless drill chuck rated for the shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant to the workpiece when drilling stainless steel or hard alloys to prevent work hardening and premature edge wear. Follow the drill press or CNC machine manufacturer guidelines for recommended feed rates and spindle speeds for the workpiece material.
