The OSG 62587 is a jobber-length twist drill bit ground from vanadium high speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN) for extended tool life. It carries an 8.70 mm diameter with a tolerance of +0 to -0.022 mm, a 120-degree point angle, and an S-thinned web that reduces thrust and promotes self-centering on entry. Overall length is 131.00 mm with an 81.00 mm flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 10.00 mm in diameter, fitting standard drill chucks and collet systems. This is a right-hand cutting, regular-spiral, two-flute design built for high-performance drilling in production and maintenance environments.
The OSG 62587 is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The S-thinned point supports self-centering entry without a center-punch in many setups, making it practical for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld operations. It belongs to OSG Series 1600, a line positioned for high-performance general-purpose drilling across ferrous and non-ferrous materials. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling harder alloys or at higher feed rates.
Designed for use in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 10.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of OSG Series 1600 for high-performance general-purpose drilling applications.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with cutting tool setup. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before starting the cut. Since this bit has no coolant-through provision, apply external cutting fluid or coolant to the work zone when drilling steel or stainless steel to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit when the TiN coating shows significant wear at the point.
