The OSG 62580 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for production and maintenance drilling in metalworking applications. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS. The 120-degree drill point angle is ground to an S-thinned web geometry for easier self-centering and reduced thrust on entry. At 119 mm overall length with a 75 mm flute length and an 8 mm straight-cylindrical shank, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC tool holders without adapters. Diameter tolerance is held to +0 to -0.022 mm for consistent hole sizing.
This bit is suited for blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, and through-hole applications in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The Series 1600 designation places it in OSGs high-performance jobber line, making it appropriate for use in manual drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drilling applications where consistent repeatability across production runs is required. It is a single-piece unit with no coolant-through capability, so external cutting fluid or mist coolant is recommended when drilling ferrous materials.
Designed for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpiece materials. Suitable for use across blind hole, cross-hole, standard drilling, and self-centering applications per OSG Series 1600 specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard drill chuck or collet sized for an 8 mm shank. Secure the shank fully in the tool holder and verify runout before starting the cut. Apply external cutting fluid or mist coolant when drilling ferrous materials to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not have coolant-through capability. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating for wear at regular intervals and replace the bit if point geometry is compromised.
