The OSG 62550 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Ground from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 120-degree split point with S-thinned web geometry promotes self-centering on entry and reduces the thrust force needed to start a hole, making it well-suited for production drilling as well as maintenance and repair work. At 5 mm in diameter with a 96 mm overall length, it fits standard keyless and keyed drill chucks and is sized for typical jobber-length applications in metal fabrication and mechanical assembly.
This bit is rated for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix efficiently evacuates chips during drilling. It is a single-piece tool intended for use in handheld drills, drill presses, CNC machining centers, and similar drilling equipment used by machinists, millwrights, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in shop or field environments.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit compatible with keyless and keyed drill chucks accepting a 6 mm straight shank, for use in handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling equipment set up for 5 mm diameter tooling.
This drill bit is installed and replaced by machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians using standard drill chuck tooling. Ensure the chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely fixtured before beginning any drilling operation. For best results and longest tool life, use appropriate cutting speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and apply cutting fluid where the application allows. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the TiN coating is worn through at the cutting lips.
