The OSG 62540 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and aluminum alloys. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, the bit delivers extended wear resistance and reduced friction across demanding drilling applications. The 130-degree split point (S-thinned) geometry reduces thrust and enables self-centering entry without a center punch. At 75 mm overall length with a 43 mm flute length, this is a standard jobber-length geometry suited to general-purpose production and maintenance drilling. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks. Installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in metal.
The OSG 62540 is rated for blind hole, cross hole, through drilling, and self-centering applications in steel (P), stainless steel (M), aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate (N) workpiece materials. The 4 mm diameter and regular spiral flute configuration make it a practical choice for light structural fabrication, machine shop operations, and field maintenance work where a reliable general-purpose drill bit is needed in smaller metric sizes. No coolant-through capability is required for most standard use cases with this series.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 4 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpiece materials as part of OSG Series 1600.
Install in a drill press, hand drill, or CNC spindle with a chuck rated for 4 mm straight-shank tooling. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened before operation. Apply cutting fluid or light oil when drilling stainless steel or harder steel grades to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the TiN coating is fully worn at the point.
