The OSG 61603 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction during cutting. The bit measures 10.30 mm in diameter with a 100.00 mm overall length and features a 120-degree, 4-facet point that promotes accurate self-centering and reduces thrust load on entry. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration further lowers cutting resistance. This bit is sold individually and is suited for production and job shop environments where consistent hole quality in steel and non-ferrous materials is required.
The OSG 61603 is used in screw machine operations, CNC drilling, and manual drill press work where a short, rigid drill length is preferred over jobber or taper length alternatives. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides chip clearance while maintaining body stiffness. Typical users include machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians drilling structural steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct tooling selection for screw machine, CNC, and drill press setups requiring a 10.30 mm diameter straight-shank drill bit in OSG Series 1100.
Installation and replacement of drill bits should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully de-energized and the spindle at a complete stop. Use a properly sized collet, drill chuck, or tool holder that matches the 12.00 mm straight cylindrical shank diameter to ensure concentricity and prevent slippage. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating before each use and replace the bit if chipping or coating wear is observed. Follow the machine manufacturer and applicable shop safety guidelines for feeds, speeds, and coolant use with high speed steel tooling.
