The OSG 61565 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for short-reach, high-precision drilling in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, it measures 0.2559 inches (6.50 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 2.953 inches (75.00 mm). The 120-degree faceted point and web-thinned, tapered web geometry reduce entry force and improve centering on contact. Two spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently, and the straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard chucks. This bit is rated for high-performance use and is suited for production-environment drilling by machinists and trade professionals.
The OSG 61565 is built for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Its screw machine length profile keeps the bit rigid in applications where stub-length reach is preferred over jobber length, such as CNC drilling, turret lathe work, and drill press operations requiring tight column clearance. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports effective chip clearance in moderate-depth holes. The 8.00 mm (0.315 inch) shank diameter accommodates standard collets and drill chucks used across production and maintenance machining setups.
Designed for use on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Fits standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting an 8.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the OSG Series 1100 high-performance drill line, covering the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inch diameter range.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die professionals familiar with cutting tool setup. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the chuck is properly tightened before beginning any drilling operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to manage heat buildup, particularly when drilling stainless steel. Inspect the cutting edges and point geometry before each use and replace the bit if chipping or wear is observed.
