The OSG 61558 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, it measures 5.80mm (0.2283 inches) in diameter with a 120-degree faceted drill point and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard chucks and drill presses. At 72.00mm (approximately 2.835 inches) in overall length, the stub-style body provides rigidity and resistance to deflection, making it well suited for production drilling and close-tolerance work in steel and aluminum. This bit is part of OSG Series 1100 and is rated for high-performance cutting applications.
The OSG 61558 is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Its shorter screw machine length body reduces overhang and improves hole location accuracy compared to jobber-length equivalents. Typical applications include production machining, CNC drilling, and manual drill press operations where rigidity and repeatability matter. A 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip evacuation for most through-hole and shallow blind-hole applications in these materials.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production-use drill bit for operations requiring a 5.80mm screw machine length stub drill in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Compatible with any standard drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill accepting a 6.00mm straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with drill bit selection and speeds-and-feeds practices. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. De-energize and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for cutting fluid use, RPM selection, and feed rate when drilling the specified workpiece materials.
