The OSG 61554 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. It measures 0.2126 inches (5.40 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 72.00 mm and a flute length of 28.00 mm. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a coated finish to extend tool life and reduce friction during cutting. A 120-degree faceted drill point and web-thinned, tapered web configuration allow for faster penetration and reduced thrust force. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this drill bit.
This bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces in production and maintenance environments. The screw machine length (stub length) body provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it appropriate for drill press, CNC, and manual machine tool applications where reduced deflection and improved hole accuracy are priorities. It carries a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and is classified as a high-performance grade drill within OSG Series 1100.
Designed as a replacement or production drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual machine tools accepting a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and de-energized before installing or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Verify chuck or collet capacity accepts a 6.00 mm straight shank before mounting. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for feed rate and spindle speed selection based on workpiece material.
