The OSG 5947200 is a cobalt tapered end mill built for machining angled walls, draft features, and mold or die cavity work where precise taper geometry is required. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance in tough ferrous and stainless materials. The tool runs a 3-degree taper per side with a 3/8-inch small end diameter and a 2-1/4-inch length of cut, giving machinists the reach and geometry needed for core and cavity profiling. With 3 spiral flutes and a right-hand flute direction, it evacuates chips efficiently while maintaining good surface finish. The square end configuration suits slotting, ramping, and finishing passes in tapered pocket applications.
This tapered end mill is suited for job shops, tool and die operations, and mold-making environments running conventional vertical or CNC milling machines. It fits applications in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar hard materials where M42 cobalt provides an edge over standard M2 tooling. The 5/8-inch shank mounts in standard ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, or Weldon-style tool holders commonly used in production and prototype machining. The uncoated finish makes it easy to resharpen when needed. This tool belongs to OSG Series 594.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or equivalent tapered end mill for milling operations requiring a 3-degree-per-side taper, 3/8-inch small diameter, and 5/8-inch shank in Series 594 tooling programs.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following shop tooling procedures. Secure the 5/8-inch shank firmly in a properly sized collet chuck or end mill holder and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped before tool changes. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling in the workpiece material being cut.
