The OSG 5823200 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in milling operations on machining centers and manual mills. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it offers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 0.7874 inches in diameter with a 1-9/16 inch length of cut and a 7/8 inch shank diameter. A 30-degree spiral helix and two flutes provide efficient chip evacuation, and the centercutting geometry allows both plunge and peripheral cutting. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard. This is a double-end design, giving two usable cutting ends from a single tool body.
The OSG 5823200 fits general-purpose milling applications including slotting, profiling, and step milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The M42 cobalt grade performs well in tougher alloy steels, stainless steels, and hard materials where standard M2 HSS tooling would wear prematurely. With a 5-1/2 inch overall length and regular-length classification, it is suited for conventional reach applications in both job shop and production environments. Machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators are the typical end users for this Series 582 tool.
Designed as a standard shank end mill for use in 7/8 inch collets, end mill holders, or Weldon-style holders on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling machines. Part of the OSG Series 582 product line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state before tool changes. Ensure the shank is fully seated and properly torqued in the tool holder according to the holder manufacturer's specifications. Inspect runout after mounting and confirm cutting parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material before starting the cut. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut for the tool diameter.
