The OSG 5822300 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance well beyond standard M2 HSS tooling. The cutter measures 0.7087 inches in diameter with a 1-5/16 inch length of cut and a 3/4 inch shank diameter, making it a solid choice for slot milling, peripheral milling, and general profiling work. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life between changeovers. A 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces across a wide range of workpiece materials.
This end mill is suited for manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills operating on ferrous metals, alloy steels, stainless steels, and other tough materials where cobalt tooling is the standard specification. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece without pre-drilling. At 5 inches overall length with a regular-length profile, it fits standard collets and end mill holders without requiring extended-reach setups. Machinists in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments will find this a direct-fit replacement for worn Series 582 tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct fitment tool within the OSG Series 582 end mill family. Accepts standard 3/4 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style holders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop-standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Set tool stick-out to the minimum length required for the operation to maximize rigidity and reduce chatter. Torque the set screw or collet nut to the toolholder specification and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting.
