The OSG 5821400 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers reliable heat resistance and edge retention in demanding cutting environments. The tool features a 0.5906-inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/8-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle with spiral fluting. It is a double-end, centercutting design, allowing direct plunge entry into workpiece material. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation make it compatible with standard milling machine spindles. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
The 5821400 is suited for milling operations in job shops, production environments, and maintenance machining. The 5/8-inch shank diameter fits standard milling chucks and collets. At 4-1/2 inches overall length with a regular-length classification, this end mill is appropriate for general slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on manual and CNC knee mills, vertical machining centers, and similar equipment. The uncoated finish makes it a practical choice for operators who sharpen and recondition tooling in-house.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify chuck or collet runout is within acceptable tolerance before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on cobalt tooling. Follow shop-standard speeds and feeds for M42 cobalt end mills based on workpiece material.
