The OSG 5821100 is a cobalt square end mill built for general-purpose milling operations where heat resistance and edge retention matter. The cutter measures 0.4724 inches (12.00 mm) in diameter with a 13/16-inch length of cut, a 1/2-inch shank diameter, and a 3-3/4-inch overall length. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers better red hardness than standard M2 tooling, making it a solid choice when cutting tougher steels or working in conditions where coolant is limited. The 30-degree helix and spiral flute geometry promote chip evacuation and smooth cutting action across a range of workpiece materials.
This end mill is suited for vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life and reducing cost per edge. The centercutting design allows plunge milling in addition to peripheral and slot milling. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation match standard spindle rotation on conventional milling setups. It is installed and changed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians working in metalworking applications.
Part of the OSG Series 582 regular-length cobalt double-end square end mill line. Designed for use in 1/2-inch collets or end mill holders on standard vertical and horizontal milling machines and machining centers accepting straight shank tooling.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the drawbar or collet nut is secured before inserting or removing the tool. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder matched to the 1/2-inch shank diameter to maintain concentricity and minimize runout. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable machine guarding requirements when operating milling equipment.
