The OSG 5820400 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool delivers durability and heat resistance in demanding cutting environments. It features a 0.2362-inch cutting diameter, a 0.5-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle with spiral flutes for efficient chip evacuation. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry are standard for conventional CNC and manual milling setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals reach for this end mill when working on close-tolerance slots, pockets, and profile cuts where tool life and dimensional accuracy matter.
This end mill fits residential shop and industrial production environments alike. It is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other tough alloys where cobalt tooling outperforms standard high-speed steel. The 3/8-inch shank diameter fits standard collets and end mill holders on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC routers. The double-end design extends tool life by providing two usable cutting ends per tool, reducing overall tooling cost per operation. The 3-1/8-inch overall length keeps overhang manageable for rigid setups.
Designed for use in standard 3/8-inch collets and end mill holders on CNC machining centers, vertical knee mills, and manual milling machines. Part of OSG Series 582.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware according to the machine tool manufacturer specifications. Always verify tool runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, and use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material.
