The OSG 5820100 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool delivers durability and heat resistance in demanding cutting environments. The 0.1181-inch cutting diameter, 30-degree spiral helix, and 2-flute geometry produce efficient chip evacuation and clean side-wall finishes. At 3-1/16 inches overall length with a 3/8-inch shank, the 5820100 fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders on most vertical mills and machining centers. It is centercutting, enabling direct plunge entry without pre-drilling. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in job shops, maintenance departments, and production environments are the primary installers.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys where cobalt tooling outperforms standard HSS. The 3/8-inch length of cut handles light-to-moderate depth passes in the 0.1181-inch diameter range. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is the standard orientation for conventional and climb milling on CNC and manual vertical mills. OSG Series 582 identifies this as a regular-length, uncoated cobalt double-end design intended for versatile shop use.
Designed to fit any collet chuck or end mill holder accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter; compatible with standard ER, DA, and TG collet systems on vertical mills and CNC machining centers running this shank size.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before loading or removing the tool. Ensure the shank is fully seated in the holder and the collet or set-screw is torqued per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use; cobalt tools are more brittle than carbide and should not be dropped or contacted with hard surfaces during handling.
