The OSG 5810200 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention without a coating. The cutter measures 0.1575 inches in diameter with a 7/16-inch length of cut and runs a 30-degree spiral helix with four flutes for efficient chip evacuation. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry makes it compatible with standard vertical milling setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this end mill for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill fits residential and commercial machine shop applications wherever a small-diameter, four-flute cobalt cutter is required. The 3/8-inch shank diameter seats in standard collets and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills alike. Its regular-length body suits typical cavity and contour work within the 0.3000 to 0.5000-inch length-of-cut range. The Series 581 designation places it within OSG's cobalt uncoated end mill family, making it a direct catalog selection for shops that standardize on that series.
Designed as an OEM-style catalog replacement within the OSG Series 581 cobalt uncoated end mill line, compatible with any standard 3/8-inch collet or end mill holder on CNC or manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 3/8-inch shank fully into the collet or holder and torque the retention nut to the machine manufacturer's specification. This end mill is non-centercutting and must not be used for plunge operations; ramp or helical entry is required when moving axially into material. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use and replace or resharpen as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy.
