The OSG 5808600 is a two-flute cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 high-speed cobalt steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention in demanding cutting environments. The tool measures 0.3346 inches in diameter with a 9/16-inch length of cut and a 3/8-inch shank diameter. A 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, while the centercutting design allows the tool to plunge directly into a workpiece. This end mill ships uncoated and is well suited for machinists, tool-and-die makers, and job shop operators running manual or CNC milling equipment.
This end mill fits standard milling applications where a sub-half-inch diameter tool is required. The 3/8-inch shank seats in common ER or side-lock collet systems. With an overall length of 2-5/16 inches and a regular-length classification, it suits typical shallow-to-mid-depth slotting, profiling, and pocketing work on mills and machining centers. The Series 580 designation places it within OSG's standard cobalt end mill lineup, making it a reliable choice for production shops and maintenance machining alike.
Designed as a standard-shank replacement end mill for use in 3/8-inch collet chucks, ER collet systems, or side-lock holders on manual knee mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tool-change procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet or holder and torque the retention nut to the collet manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear on a two-flute tool.
