The OSG 5742108 is a square end mill designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel, this tool delivers improved wear resistance over standard M2 HSS, making it suitable for tougher interrupted cuts and abrasive workpiece materials. The TiCN surface finish further extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. With a 0.7188-inch (23/32 inch) cutting diameter, four spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle, and a 1.625-inch length of cut, this end mill is well suited for slot milling, peripheral milling, and side milling applications in a production or job-shop environment.
This end mill fits standard CNC machining centers and manual knee mills using a 0.5-inch shank collet or end mill holder. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece without pre-drilling. Right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction is the conventional configuration for most vertical milling setups. The 3.625-inch overall length keeps the tool compact and rigid, minimizing deflection during full-depth passes. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals will find this a practical general-purpose tool for daily production work.
Designed for use in any CNC or manual milling machine equipped with a 0.5-inch collet, end mill holder, or Weldon-style toolholder. Part of the OSG Series 574 end mill line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder to the minimum insertion depth required by the holder manufacturer to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear and reduces surface finish quality.
