The OSG 5741900 is a square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in metalworking and machining environments. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel, it delivers improved wear resistance and edge retention compared to standard M2 HSS tooling. The cutter measures 21/32 inches (0.6563 inches) in diameter with a 1-5/8 inch length of cut and a 1/2 inch shank diameter, giving it a 3-5/8 inch overall length. The four-flute, spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finish across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is centercutting, allowing plunge operations in addition to peripheral and slot milling.
This end mill is suited for use in manual knee mills, CNC machining centers, and milling fixtures found in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The regular length classification makes it a standard choice for face milling, contouring, slotting, and shoulder milling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. The uncoated finish is appropriate for applications where re-sharpening is anticipated or where a specific coating is not required by the operation. It is part of OSG Series 574, a line of vanadium HSS end mills intended for versatile, general-duty cutting tasks.
Designed as an OSG Series 574 vanadium high speed steel square end mill; fits any milling machine or machining center equipped with a 1/2 inch tool holder, collet, or end mill adapter accepting standard shank end mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Seat the shank to the minimum recommended insertion depth in the collet or end mill holder to maximize rigidity and minimize runout. Verify tool runout with a dial indicator before production cutting, and confirm feeds and speeds are appropriate for the workpiece material and depth of cut.
