The OSG 5741500 is a square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in metal, steel, and alloy workpieces. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel, it offers improved wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS. The cutter measures 17/32 inches in diameter with a 1/2 inch shank diameter, a 1-3/8 inch length of cut, and a 3-3/8 inch overall length. Four spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle promote chip evacuation and support smooth cutting action. The centercutting geometry allows both plunge and lateral milling. This tool is installed and used by machinists and CNC operators in job shops, toolrooms, and production environments.
This end mill suits conventional and CNC milling machines configured for right-hand spindle rotation. The regular-length configuration fits standard tool holders with a 1/2 inch bore. The uncoated vanadium HSS construction makes it compatible with a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials where coolant is applied. Installation is performed by machinists using a standard collet chuck or end mill holder rated for 1/2 inch shank tooling. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the cutter. Tighten the tool holder to the manufacturer-specified torque using the appropriate wrench — do not use makeshift tools. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cuts to avoid premature edge wear.
