The OSG 5740208 is a 4-flute square end mill designed for general-purpose milling in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel, it delivers improved wear resistance and edge retention compared to standard M2 HSS tooling. The TiCN coating further extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. With a 5/32 inch mill diameter, 7/16 inch length of cut, and 3/8 inch shank diameter, this end mill fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders used on manual mills and CNC machining centers. The 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during profiling and slotting operations.
This end mill is suited for peripheral milling, slotting, and light profiling on ferrous metals, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, making it practical for ramping and full-slot operations. The regular-length geometry and 2-3/8 inch overall length make it appropriate for standard reach applications on vertical milling machines, knee mills, and compact CNC machining centers. Series 574 tooling from OSG is commonly selected for production and maintenance machining environments where consistent performance from an HSS tool is required.
Designed for use with standard 3/8 inch collet chucks and end mill holders on vertical milling machines, knee mills, and CNC machining centers. Part of OSG Series 574.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the minimum insertion depth recommended for the holder type, and torque the retention nut or set screw per the holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut.
