The OSG 5740200 is a 4-flute square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in machine shop and production environments. Ground from 3% vanadium high speed steel, it delivers improved wear resistance and edge retention compared to standard M2 HSS. The cutter measures 5/32 inches in diameter with a 7/16-inch length of cut and mounts on a 3/8-inch shank. Overall length is 2-3/8 inches. The 30-degree spiral helix promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the centercutting geometry allows plunge entry. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production settings.
The 5740200 is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous materials in light-to-medium-duty applications where HSS tooling is preferred over carbide. The regular-length body and 3/8-inch shank make it compatible with standard end mill holders and collet chucks on vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is the industry standard for conventional and climb milling passes.
Designed as a standard-shank replacement end mill compatible with 3/8-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and milling machines accepting right-hand tooling of this diameter and shank size.
This end mill is installed and changed by machinists using appropriate end mill holders or collet chucks; ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before any tool change. Verify holder bore diameter matches the 3/8-inch shank before clamping. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for runout tolerance and pull-out prevention. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use.
