The OSG 5731600 is a two-flute square end mill ground from 3% vanadium high speed steel for use in general-purpose milling operations. With a 9/16-inch cutting diameter and a 1-1/8-inch length of cut, it handles slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in a wide range of workpiece materials. The 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The centercutting design allows the tool to plunge directly into a workpiece without a pre-drilled entry hole. This is a single-end, uncoated tool in the OSG Series 573 regular-length configuration, suited for manual mills and CNC machining centers.
This end mill is used in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments where a reliable general-purpose HSS cutter is required. The 1/2-inch shank fits standard ER collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders common to knee mills, bed mills, and vertical machining centers. The uncoated vanadium HSS construction makes it a practical choice for mild steels, aluminum, brass, and plastics where high-performance coatings are not required.
Designed for use with standard 1/2-inch bore end mill holders, ER32 and ER40 collet chucks, and Weldon-style set-screw holders on vertical knee mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the minimum insertion depth recommended by the holder manufacturer before tightening. Inspect the cutting edges and flutes for chips or cracks before each use; do not run a damaged end mill.
