The OSG 5731008 is a square-end, single-end mill designed for general-purpose milling in steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous materials. It is built from 3% vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating for improved wear resistance and extended tool life. The cutting geometry features two spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle and is centercutting, allowing plunge cuts and slot milling. The mill diameter is 0.4063 inches (13/32 inches) with a 0.3750-inch (3/8-inch) shank diameter. Cutting length is 0.8125 inches (13/16 inches) and overall length is 2.5 inches. Machinists and tool-and-die shops use this end mill for profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling operations on manual and CNC mills.
The OSG 5731008 is suited to light-to-medium-duty milling work in job shops, maintenance machining environments, and production settings where a regular-length HSS end mill provides adequate reach. The right-hand cut with right-hand flute configuration fits standard vertical and horizontal milling machine spindles. The centercutting capability makes it practical for plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. It is not intended for extended-reach or deep-cavity applications given its standard regular-length profile. This tool is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed as a direct-fit tooling option for standard milling machine spindles and CNC machining centers accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank. Part of OSG Series 573.
Installation and use of end mills should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling personnel familiar with cutting tool setup procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before installing or changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the depth recommended by the holder manufacturer to prevent tool pullout during cutting. Verify spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut.
