The OSG 5731000 is a single-end square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in metal and alloy workpieces. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel, it delivers solid wear resistance and edge retention in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 13/32-inch (0.4063-inch) cutting diameter pairs with a 3/8-inch shank, a 13/16-inch length of cut, and a 2-1/2-inch overall length. The 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry directly into a workpiece, which expands its use across slotting, profiling, and pocket milling operations.
The OSG 5731000 is suited for manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills running ferrous metals, aluminum, brass, and plastics. The regular-length configuration fits standard toolholders and collets without extended-reach adapters. With a right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation, it follows conventional setup for the majority of vertical milling applications. Machinists and toolroom operators working in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments will find this a reliable general-purpose tool for everyday material removal tasks.
Designed as a standard single-end square end mill compatible with 3/8-inch collets and toolholders on vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers. Part of the OSG Series 573 product line.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Secure the shank fully into a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder and torque to the machine manufacturer's specification before use. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, and never exceed the spindle speed and feed rate appropriate for the workpiece material. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling.
