The OSG 570543717 is a screw machine length solid carbide drill bit with a 7/16 inch (11.11 mm) diameter and a 180-degree web-thinned point geometry. At 6.69 inches overall length with a 50 mm flute length, this stub-style bit is built for rigid setups where minimal overhang and reduced deflection matter. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Solid carbide construction delivers the hardness and thermal resistance required when drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron at elevated feeds and speeds. The web-thinned point reduces thrust force at entry, supporting cleaner hole initiation without a pilot. This bit is intended for use by machinists, tool and die trades, and maintenance technicians running CNC or manual drilling operations.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in ferrous materials including steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Its screw machine length — shorter than a jobber bit — makes it a practical choice for drilling operations on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where workpiece clearance is limited or rigidity is a priority. The 2-flute regular spiral configuration provides efficient chip evacuation in these materials without coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for flood coolant or dry drilling setups where coolant is delivered externally.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Fits standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.4375 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the OSG Series 5705 screw machine length carbide drill line.
Solid carbide tooling requires a rigid machine setup — avoid use in handheld drills or flexible-arm drill presses where vibration can cause chipping or breakage. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck or collet is torqued to the machine specification before starting the cut. External flood coolant or mist is recommended when drilling steel and cast iron to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edge before each use; carbide chips rather than bends, and a chipped edge should be reground or replaced before further use.
