The OSG 570031211 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. Built to Series 5700 specifications, it features a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) diameter, a 180-degree flat drill point, and a two-flute spiral configuration with web thinning for reduced thrust and improved chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collets. At 75 mm overall length, this stub-length bit offers added rigidity compared to jobber-length alternatives, making it well suited for precision hole placement in tight setups. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This bit is sized for use in screw machine, CNC drilling, and general production drilling environments where rigidity and accuracy are priorities. Primary workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. The 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration support chip clearing in short, blind, and through holes typical of production machining workflows. The coated finish provides additional wear resistance during repeated high-cycle use.
Designed as a high-performance replacement drill bit for production drilling of steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces using standard collet or drill chuck toolholding systems that accept a straight-cylindrical shank in the 5/16 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck before operating. Carbide is brittle — avoid impact, side loading, or interrupted cuts that exceed the tool design. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit at first sign of chipping or dulling to prevent workpiece damage or tool breakage.
