The OSG 5677800 is a double-end cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials in machining center and manual mill applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 5/32 inch (0.1563 inch) in diameter with a 7/16 inch (0.4375 inch) length of cut and a 30-degree right-hand spiral helix. Four flutes provide a balance of chip evacuation and surface finish. The double-end configuration extends tool life by offering two usable cutting ends per tool. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tooling.
The OSG 5677800 is suited for general-purpose slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in job shops, maintenance machining, and production environments. Its regular-length geometry fits standard collet and end mill holders for vertical machining centers and knee mills. The bright, uncoated finish makes it a practical choice for operations where coolant is used, and the center-cutting design allows it to plunge directly into the workpiece without pre-drilling. Series 567 from OSG is positioned for versatile ferrous cutting across a range of steel alloys and stainless steels.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for use in collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter, consistent with Series 567 regular-length square end mills.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with speeds, feeds, and proper clamping for small-diameter end mills. Secure the shank fully within the holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening; insufficient grip on a small-diameter tool increases deflection risk. Power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Follow shop safety practices and machine manufacturer guidelines when setting depth of cut and feed rate for cobalt tooling in hardened or stainless materials.
