The OSG 5637900 is a double-end cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations requiring durability and heat resistance beyond standard high-speed steel tooling. Built from M42 cobalt steel, this cutter handles harder workpiece materials and elevated cutting temperatures. It measures 11/64 inches (0.1719 inches) in diameter with a 1/2 inch length of cut and a 3/16 inch shank diameter. The 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the center-cutting design allows direct plunging into the workpiece. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this end mill in manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills where a compact, small-diameter cutter is required.
This end mill is suited for light profiling, slotting, and pocketing operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life between replacements. The bright uncoated finish makes it appropriate for general-purpose milling where a specific coating is not required. Its regular length classification and compact 2-1/4 inch overall length make it well suited for close-tolerance work in confined setups or when minimal tool overhang is needed to reduce deflection.
Designed as a standard shank end mill compatible with 3/16 inch ER collets, side-lock holders, and other tool holders accepting a 3/16 inch straight shank, for use in manual and CNC milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be fully powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill from the tool holder. Verify collet or chuck bore matches the 3/16 inch shank diameter and that runout is within acceptable tolerance before initiating a cut. Inspect both cutting ends for chipping or wear before use, and retire the tool if edge condition is compromised.
