The OSG 5628000 is a double-end, cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and hard materials in machining centers and manual milling machines. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it resists heat and wear at elevated cutting speeds. The 3/16 inch cutting diameter and stub-length profile make it well suited for short-reach slotting and peripheral milling where rigidity matters. With a 30-degree helix angle, two right-hand spiral flutes, and a bright uncoated finish, this end mill delivers efficient chip evacuation and clean edge geometry straight out of the package. Center-cutting geometry allows for direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
This tool fits production and job-shop environments where tight tolerances and consistent tool life are required. The stub-length configuration reduces deflection in high-feed applications. The double-end design extends usable tool life by providing a second cutting end once the first is worn. It is appropriate for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other materials within the M42 cobalt working range. The 3/16 inch shank diameter matches the cutting diameter for direct collet or end mill holder mounting with no adapter required.
Designed for use in standard collet chucks and end mill holders accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter. Part of the OSG Series 562 stub-length double-end cobalt end mill line.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify collet or holder runout is within acceptable tolerance before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on small-diameter end mills. Always use appropriate personal protective equipment when handling cutting tools.
