The OSG 5486200 is a cobalt square end mill engineered for demanding metal-removal applications in industrial and job-shop environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention that standard HSS cannot match. The cutter measures 1.5 inches in diameter with a 3-inch length of cut, a 1.25-inch shank diameter, and a 5.5-inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree right-hand helix generate efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action across a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. This is a single-end, centercutting tool suitable for slotting, profiling, and plunging operations. It ships bright and uncoated.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. The 1.25-inch shank fits standard R8, CAT, BT, and direct-mount toolholders of the appropriate bore. Typical applications include profile milling, shoulder milling, and full-slot cutting on vertical mills, horizontal mills, and CNC machining centers. The regular-length geometry and 3-inch length of cut give machinists adequate reach for most medium-depth cavity and pocket work without sacrificing rigidity.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cutting tool compatible with any machine spindle or toolholder accepting a 1.25-inch round shank, including standard milling chucks, collet holders, and side-lock holders. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, N, and H are supported per the manufacturer specification.
A licensed machinist or qualified CNC operator should install and set this tool. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before loading or changing the cutter. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder and torque the retention hardware to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting, and confirm that cutting fluid or air blast is directed at the flutes to prevent chip re-cutting and premature edge wear.
