The OSG 5485108 is a single-end, 4-flute square end mill engineered for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It carries a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) physical vapor deposition coating, which raises surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge compared to uncoated tooling. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces during side milling and slotting passes. With a 1-inch cutting diameter and 3-inch length of cut, this tool handles deep-pocket and full-depth side-wall work in a single setup. Machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople will find the right-hand cut geometry and centercutting capability standard for typical CNC and manual mill applications.
This end mill fits production and job-shop environments where a 1-inch diameter, standard-length tool is required for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. The 1-inch shank diameter matches standard R8, CAT 40, BT 40, and equivalent toolholders common on vertical machining centers and knee mills. The Series 548 designation identifies it within the OSG solid carbide or high-speed steel end mill line. It is sold individually and is suited for medium to high-volume stock removal where TiCN coating provides added tool life over uncoated alternatives.
Designed as an OEM-style solid end mill for use in standard 1-inch bore end mill holders, collet chucks, and shrink-fit toolholders on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and similar milling equipment.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with tool-holder torque procedures and runout verification. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool-change mode is engaged before inserting or removing the end mill. Verify axial runout with a dial indicator after seating the tool to confirm concentricity within the toolholder specification. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque requirements for retention knobs and collet nuts.
