The OSG 5415108 is a 4-flute square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 2-inch length of cut, and a 1-inch shank diameter, with an overall length of 4.5 inches. The TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life compared to uncoated carbide or high-speed steel alternatives. The 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in job shop, production, and toolroom environments.
The OSG 5415108 is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on vertical and horizontal machining centers as well as manual knee mills. Its centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole, adding versatility for contouring and 3D surfacing operations. The right-hand cut configuration is standard for conventional spindle rotation. Series 541 tools are commonly used in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar materials where a TiCN finish provides an advantage in tool wear resistance.
Designed as an OEM-specification end mill for use in standard 1-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 1-inch straight shank.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and secured in the toolholder to the depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear and reduces surface finish quality. Tool selection, speeds, and feeds should be validated against the workpiece material and machine rigidity before full-depth passes.
