The OSG 5414100 is a square-end, single-end cobalt end mill designed for milling ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials in machining centers and manual mills. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance that standard HSS tooling cannot match. The cutter runs a 7/8 inch diameter with a 1-7/8 inch length of cut, a matching 7/8 inch straight shank, and a 4-1/8 inch overall length. Four spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and plunge operations in job shops, tool rooms, and production machining environments. The uncoated M42 cobalt construction makes it a practical choice for stainless steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and other tough materials where heat buildup shortens tool life. It belongs to OSG Series 541, a regular-length line designed for general-purpose metalworking. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration matches the standard spindle rotation of most vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or standard tooling selection for machining centers and manual mills accepting a 7/8 inch straight shank; belongs to OSG Series 541.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Seat the shank fully in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before changing tooling, and follow applicable shop safety procedures for rotating cutting tools.
