The OSG 5412000 is a 4-flute cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials in metalworking operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention under demanding cutting conditions. The cutter measures 0.625 inches in diameter with a 0.625-inch length of cut and a 2.75-inch overall length. Its 30-degree spiral helix promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces chatter during side milling and slotting passes. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators use this end mill for general-purpose milling where carbide is cost-prohibitive or where material toughness favors HSS cobalt tooling.
This end mill fits standard 0.625-inch collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders common on knee mills, vertical machining centers, and CNC mills. It is well suited for milling alloy steels, stainless steels, cast iron, and other materials that benefit from cobalt grade tooling. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral and slot milling. The uncoated finish makes it straightforward to resharpen with standard grinding equipment, extending tool life across multiple regrinds.
Designed for use in standard 0.625-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style holders on vertical mills and CNC machining centers. Part of the OSG Series 541 square end mill line.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Secure the shank fully into the tool holder to the recommended gauge-line depth and torque the retention mechanism per the holder manufacturer specification before spindle operation. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against published cutting data for the workpiece material and depth of cut before running. Never exceed the rated cutting diameter or length of cut for the tool.
