The OSG 5411008 is a cobalt square end mill designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and hard materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance over standard HSS tooling. The 0.5 inch cutting diameter and 0.5 inch length of cut are paired with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating that reduces friction and extends tool life in demanding applications. With four spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle and a center-cutting design, this end mill handles both plunge and peripheral milling. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use it for slotting, profiling, and finishing cuts on steel, alloy steel, and similar workpiece materials.
This end mill fits standard milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills equipped with a 0.5 inch collet or end mill holder. The 0.5 inch shank diameter and 2.5 inch overall length make it suited for general-purpose milling with moderate reach requirements. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation match the majority of conventional and CNC milling setups. The Series 541 designation identifies it within OSGs cobalt end mill family, and the single-end configuration is standard for this class of tooling.
Designed for use in any milling setup accepting a 0.5 inch shank, including standard ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit holders on CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is de-energized before inserting or removing the end mill from the holder. Verify collet or holder is clean and free of chips before seating the shank, and confirm runout with a dial indicator before production use. Do not exceed the manufacturer-rated speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling in the material being machined.
