The OSG 5410400 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials. Built to Series 541 specifications, it features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 3/4-inch length of cut, and a 3/8-inch shank diameter with a 2-1/2-inch overall length. The 4-flute, spiral-flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill is uncoated and suited for shops running conventional milling programs without high-heat coatings. It is a single-end, regular-length tool intended for machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on manual or CNC machining centers.
This end mill is appropriate for general-purpose milling applications including slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar materials. Its centercutting design allows plunge cuts in addition to side and slot milling, making it a versatile tool for production and job-shop environments. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional vertical and horizontal machining setups. Regular-length geometry keeps deflection low in close-tolerance work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit cutting tool for machining centers and manual mills accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter. Part of OSG Series 541 regular-length square end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholder torque and runout procedures. Ensure the spindle and toolholder are clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Verify tool projection and runout with a dial indicator before cutting to minimize vibration and premature edge wear. Follow your machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards when setting feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.
