The OSG 5405200 is a 6-flute cobalt square end mill designed for high-performance milling in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance that makes it well-suited for interrupted cuts, harder steels, and demanding production environments. The mill features a 1.125-inch cutting diameter, a 2-inch length of cut, and a 1-inch shank diameter with a 4.5-inch overall length. The 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining cutting edge strength. This tool ships uncoated and is intended for installation in standard end mill holders, collet chucks, or milling machine spindles.
This end mill is used in job shop and production machining applications where a regular-length, single-end square profile is required. It is suited for slotting, peripheral milling, and side milling operations on steel, stainless, and other ferrous alloys. The non-centercutting design means it is intended for side milling and slotting rather than plunge cutting. It is typically installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals operating vertical machining centers, knee mills, or CNC milling equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style end mill for use in standard 1-inch bore end mill holders, shell mill adapters, or precision collet chucks on vertical and horizontal milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 1-inch shank fully into the holder and torque the retention hardware to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, and confirm the non-centercutting geometry before programming any plunge moves.
