The OSG 5362100 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and tough alloy materials in metalworking operations. Built to Series 536 specifications, this single-end tool features a 0.625-inch cutting diameter, a 2.5-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle with three spiral flutes. The M42 cobalt construction provides heat and wear resistance beyond standard high-speed steel, making it well suited for interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials. It is center-cutting, allowing direct plunging into the workpiece. The uncoated finish makes the tool edge condition easy to inspect and allows for straightforward resharpening in a tool room environment.
This end mill is used in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines for slotting, profiling, ramping, and peripheral milling operations. The long-series length of cut at 2.5 inches accommodates deeper pockets and stepped features that standard-length end mills cannot reach. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry are the conventional configuration for the majority of CNC and manual milling setups. Machinists and tool and die professionals working with stainless steels, tool steels, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys are the primary users of this geometry and material grade.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-stock end mill for vertical milling machines and machining centers accepting a 0.625-inch straight shank with right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Secure the shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder, ensuring full engagement depth per the holder manufacturer specification. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. Inspect the cutting edges and shank for damage before each use; do not run a chipped or deflected end mill at rated feed and speed.
