The OSG 5360400 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built to Series 536 specifications, it features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 1-3/8-inch length of cut, and a 3/8-inch shank diameter with an overall length of 3-1/8 inches. The three-flute geometry balances chip evacuation with cutting stability, while the 30-degree right-hand spiral helix promotes smooth cutting action and reduces chatter. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill offers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tooling. It ships uncoated and is center-cutting capable, allowing plunge entry in addition to peripheral and slot milling cuts.
This end mill suits general-purpose and long-reach milling applications in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The long-series length classification makes it appropriate where standard-length tools lack sufficient reach, such as deep pocket milling, shoulder milling, and contour work in ferrous alloys, stainless steels, and heat-resistant alloys. A licensed machinist or CNC operator typically selects this tool for manual mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers running appropriate feeds and speeds for cobalt tooling. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is compatible with standard spindle rotation on conventional milling equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style cutting tool for use in standard milling chucks, collet holders, and end mill holders accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter, on manual knee mills and CNC machining centers with right-hand spindle rotation.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with milling tool setup and safe machine operation. Secure the shank fully in a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder and verify runout before cutting. Consult OSG Series 536 speeds-and-feeds data for the specific workpiece material before starting a cut. Never exceed the tool manufacturers recommended depth of cut or feed rate for cobalt HSS end mills.
