The OSG 5350500 is a cobalt square end mill designed for demanding metal-removal applications in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It features a 0.375-inch cutting diameter, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 0.375-inch shank diameter, with an overall length of 3.25 inches. The two-flute spiral geometry incorporates a 45-degree helix angle, which promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. Ground from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tools. It is uncoated and runs as a right-hand cut with right-hand flute orientation.
This end mill is suited for milling slots, pockets, and profiles in steel alloys, stainless steel, cast iron, and other hard or abrasive workpiece materials. The long-reach geometry of the Series 535 line makes it appropriate for applications where standard-length tooling cannot reach the full depth of cut. It is used by machinists in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments operating manual or CNC milling machines. The centercutting design allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled entry point.
Designed as a standard 3/8-inch shank end mill compatible with ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and side-lock holders sized for 3/8-inch shanks on manual and CNC vertical milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholder torque and runout specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before changing tooling. Verify tool projection and shank engagement depth in the holder to minimize runout and prevent pull-out under load. Cutting parameters including speed and feed should be selected based on workpiece material, machine rigidity, and coolant availability.
